Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Applications

News

Updated 06/11/09

Since the legislature is still debating over the budget, MDE has made a decision to offer training only to those teachers who are newly hired from Phase I or Phase II schools.

Phase III schools will not be announced until the budget is finalized and passed through the legislature.  As soon as we know who the Phase III schools are we will begin to formulate an alternative training schedule for these STEM – Phase III teachers.  This alternative training plan is to provide STEM teachers just-in-time training during 3 selected weekends during the fall and three selected weekends during the spring.  The dates of these selected weekends will be published at a later date.

If you have additional questions, please contact Dr. Cathy Davis at cathy.davis@rcu.msstate.edu

Registration Information

Registration for Phase III sites will begin pending legislative approval of the FY 2010 budget. Newly hired STEM teachers in Phase I and Phase II sites have already been requested to send a list of teachers who need to be trained during the summer of 2009.

Please check this webpage frequently for the latest information.

Travel Information

The Research and Curriculum Unit will reimburse each individual participant for necessary meals, lodging, and mileage in personal vehicles. Reimbursement for meals is limited to a maximum of $25.00 per day with overnight stay. If a meal is provided at the meeting, your meal allowance will be reduced to $15 per day. Hotel reimbursement is limited to a maximum of $85.00 plus tax per night and rooms should be booked at the “standard single state rate.” It is your responsibility to make hotel reservations and to turn in lodging receipts in your name for reimbursement. All lodging receipts must show a zero balance. Lodging will be allowed for those who live in excess of 50 miles from the meeting location. If you live over 75 miles from the location lodging will be allowed for the night prior if the meeting begins prior to 10 a.m. Lodging will be allowed for the last night of the meeting if the participant will be traveling over 75 miles and the meeting adjourns after 4 p.m. Mileage is reimbursed from the school to the meeting location and return at $.55 per mile. Due to a change in MSU Business Office procedures, direct billing and reimbursement of participant’s travel expenses to a school district is no longer feasible. This change includes billing for lodging and use of a school vehicle.

Housing Accommodations

Participants are responsible for their own travel accommodations. Please find below a listing of suggested housing for your stay in Starkville or Hattiesburg.
